Colombia El Girasol Coffee

One of the things I really love about the Ortiz family, is that they have this clock in their home: 

Which is just amazing. I need to know where I can get one. 

Secondly, Robinson and the Ortiz family have been farming coffee for generations. It's only in the last 5 years that Robinson has changed his focus to specialty coffee. In that time, he's worked hard to plant some amazing coffee and also process it right there on his farm. He has several drying racks he's built out as well as the roof of his house for drying coffee. If you're not sure what that's all about, check out the video below. 

Lastly, if you're not fluent in Spanish, "Girasol" means sunflower. So the jute bags that we received from them has a beautiful sunflower printed on it.

Best Way to Brew our Colombia El Girasol Coffee

We're still experimenting with this coffee, but as of right now, I'm definitely enjoying this coffee in an Aeropress. My current method is the inverted Aeropress. Plus, I've been backpacking a bit and using my Aeropress Go, so I'll stick with that recipe for now: 

Aeropress Go Colombia El Girasol Recipe

• 12g Coffee
• Grind at "4" on the Fellow Ode Brew Grinder (pretty fine - like salt)
• 200ml Water at 205 degrees F

Directions:

• Insert the plunger just slightly into the Aeropress chamber
• Turn the entire Aeropress upside down so it's resting on the plunger
• Put the ground coffee in the brew chamber
• Add the 200ml of water
• Stir the coffee for 3-5 seconds
• Let it rest for 60 seconds
• Insert a paper filter into the filter holder and attach it to the aeropress (carefully! don't spill). 
• Carefully flip the Aeropress over onto a mug or other vessel that you can press down on. 
• Press gently on the plunger. It should take 20-30 seconds to fully depress the plunger
• Enjoy!
