We highly recommend that you invest in a high quality grinder as well. Some grinders that are amazing for pour overs and such just don't have what it takes to make great espresso and they can, quite frankly, be frustrating.
We really love the Baratza Sette 30 for beginning home espresso. In fact, if you're looking for a package deal, check out our Beginning Home Espresso setup for everything you need to get started with amazing espresso at home.
Unlike some home espresso machines that are designed to fail after 2-3 years (it's called planned obsolescence), the Rancilio Silvia is built to last. From the commercial grade components like the boiler, to industry-standard parts like a 58mm group head.
Plus, it fits on your counter. The same equipment that is used to brew amazing specialty coffee drinks in cafes around the world can make great coffee right in your home without taking up too much space.
Rancilio has upgraded their machine several times. Version 6 brings some nice upgrades including:
Some of the other features that have made the Rancilio Silvia a standout machine for years:
Since it was first introduced nearly 20 years ago, the Rancilo Silvia has continued to set the standard for reliably delicious espresso. It's built with the same commercial-grade materials that you'd find in a machine that costs thousands more, all in a frame that's just over 9 inches wide. Whether you choose the classic stainless steel finish or the modernized matte black, the Silvia's minimalistic linear styling is an attractive addition to any kitchen or bar.
Despite the refined technology inside, the Silvia retains uncomplicated brewing controls for simplified use. 4 switches with indicator lights control power, brewing, hot water, and steaming functions, along with a knob to open the steam valve. With the Silvia, you have a powerful tool for brewing better at home.
