Chemex Classic

We love the Chemex! Easily the best coffee brewing method around. It's simple to use and even simpler to clean up (very important fact there). Yet, for all of it's simplicity, it still makes fantastic coffee.

Don't Forget the Filters!!! The Chemex brewer doesn't work well with other coffee filters. The opening where the filter sits is larger than most, so a regular pour-over coffee filter will fall right through.

A Little History on the Chemex

The Chemex coffee brewer was invented in 1941 by German inventor Dr. Peter Schlumbohm and has been on permanent display at MOMA NY and the Corning Museum of Glass and was also selected by the Illinois Institue of Technology as one of the 100 best designed products of modern times.

The Chemex has been seen in popular culture for years. Most notably (for me, anyway...) we discover in Ian Fleming's From Russia, with Love James Bond uses an American Chemex with coffee from De Bry's in New Oxford Street for his breakfast coffee when stationed in London. If it's good enough for Mr. "Shaken - Not Stirred" it's good enough for me.

Why Use the Chemex?

My Chemex is my every morning coffee. It's easy to use, and super simple to clean up. Plus, I can brew exactly the right amount in my 6 cup Chemex to fill 2 - 16 oz travel mugs each morning. When I'm done brewing, I just pull the filter out and rinse the Chemex and you're all done. No scraping or struggling to get wet grounds out of the brewer.

Yes, it does take a little bit more time on my part, but I find it's a fantastic way to slow down and enjoy my morning rather than rushing out the door. It sets the mood for the entire day.
